Elena Rybakina withdrew from Roland Garros due to an illness and she still doesn't feel 100 % despite recovering weeks ago.

Rybakina was cruising smoothly through the Roland Garros draw when disaster struck. She came down with an illness that forced her to abandon plans of playing at the event. In the press conference shortly after the announcement, Rybakina explained that she experienced breathing difficulties in her warm-up which was a clear signal to abandon plans of playing.

Rybakina wasn't spotted anywhere for a few days until she posted an update on social media where she briefly mentioned that she was finally able to leave her hotel room. It was about a week since her withdrawal which left some fans worried and her admitting to feeling tired after a brief walk in the post caption certainly didn't make them feel any better.

Rybakina has played since then winning one match and losing the other in Berlin. She certainly didn't look that great and in a recent interview, the reigning Wimbledon champion talked about her Roland Garros experience sharing more details about what happened in the days following her withdrawal from the event and how it's still affecting her.

It’s been tough actually. At the French Open after I withdrew I went back to the hotel and it was even worse so I had to stay in Paris for a few days not leaving the room.

Now in the United Kingdom, Rybakina is gearing up for her Wimbledon title defence, her first time being a Grand Slam defending champion. Preparation started slowly because she still didn't feel that great and is yet to feel 100%.

I started my preparation week after just slowly starting and it was tough since it was a virus. So I still think that I’m not 100 per cent physically where I want to be but slowly it’s getting better and hopefully I can get some more matches here and feel more comfortable at Wimbledon.
