Emma Raducanu has developed a certain type of reputation according to many, but she was keen to prove it's not true recently.

Emma Raducanu mesmerized the world of tennis with her fabulous run at the US Open becoming the first qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam. It was an incredible achievement, something that seemed as if it was meant to be. Raducanu herself admitted that she felt unbeatable and the event and it certainly looked that way.

Her career hasn't gone well since then as the British player struggled a lot with her form. Most of that was due to her inability to stay on the court consistently. Multiple injuries kept her away from any kind of regular playing time on the WTA Tour, and even the best would struggle of building up a good rhythm with that type of schedule.

Many attributed the first injury-prone year to her body not being ready but even in her second year Raducanu kept dealing with multiple injuries. The media quickly proclaimed her a fragile player who is looking more and more like a one-hit wonder and she was very keen to deny that.

In a recent candid interview with The Sunday Times Raducanu admitted that she pushed herself too much in order to avoid being perceived as weak. Pushing through pain certainly wasn't the right choice as she ended up in a hospital undergoing triple surgery.

I started with a new coach and I was really motivated to get going. We were overtraining, a lot of repetition, and I carried on even through pain because I didn’t want to be perceived as weak.

Raducanu on shaking the fragile description

She's currently away from the sport but hopeful of a return this year. It's going to be tricky but she can do and this time away from the support should help her rediscover her hunger for success.
