Raducanu Eliminated In Second Round Of Australian Open Despite Herculean Effort

Emma Raducanu didn't play the best match against Wang Yafan, and she was beaten in three sets by the Chinese player.

This was a rather interesting matchup that many expected Raducanu to win; however, it didn't quite go that way. It was a proper battle that lasted well over two hours, and it certainly could have gone Raducanu's way, but the Chinese player played inspired tennis and, more importantly, never gave up.

There was a lot of that in this match; players did not give up, and it was the theme of the match. When you look at how it progressed, you certainly get the idea why. Raducanu was very shaky to start falling behind 1-5 in the opening set.

She would stabilise quite a bit and pull back one break but couldn't quite come back. The second set was somewhat similar as she fell behind 0-2 but then fought back to 2-2. Eventually, Raducanu would battle her way to a 5-3 lead and jump out to a 40-15 lead at 5-3. Wang would battle back and break Raucanu in that game but still lose the second set 6-4 by losing her serve once more.

There was a lot of battling back and forth between the players, who were pretty evenly matched. Raducanu was more aggressive and misfired often, but they were generally pretty close. Wang would get an early break in the 3rd set, and despite being pushed hard by Raducanu, she held it for the rest of the set.

Raducanu also dealt with some physical issues during the match, which was the case before the event as well. Hopefully, it's nothing serious, but it wasn't a very good performance overall. She's played better this year, but overall, it wasn't a terrible match. The final score was 6-4 4-6 6-4 for Wang.
