Emma Raducanu is back to tennis and according to former WTA player Martina Navratilova, she'll be dangerous if she's truly fully healthy.
There are some question marks about Raducanu's health because some reports indicate that she might be dealing with some minor injuries. Most of that is pretty normal because she hasn't played in a long time, so it will take a while for her body to get used to it again.
What matters is that her major injuries are recovered, which seems to be the case, and that means we should get a pretty good Raducanu in Melbourne. Former player Martina Navratilova is certain that a fully healthy Raducanu can be a threat to anybody Down Under as she told the official site of WTA.
"If she’s healthy, she’s a threat to anybody anytime, but she can also lose early, which can shake your confidence. She’s so much fun to watch when she’s healthy, so much fun. But we haven’t seen anything close to the form she won the Open with. I hope she gets to that."
There are certainly a lot of question marks when it comes to Raducanu because of the health aspect, but also the streaky nature of her play, which Navratilova also mentioned. It just depends on what happens.
The more she plays, the better she'll be, and in a few weeks, we'll see her closer to her peak. For now, it's all about competing regularly and staying healthy.
That's the part that never worked out for her in the past because even when she played well at times last year, she didn't remain healthy enough to keep playing.
The talent was never in doubt. She just needs regular competition, and to do that, she needs to be healthy. As we saw in New York a few years ago, she has what it takes. Now, she needs to be patient until she gets there again.
