rEmma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez have experienced huge drops in today's rankings after the conclusion of the US Open.
Over 2000 points were awarded to Raducanu for winning the competition, while Fernandez, who lost in the final, received a sizable number of points but not quite as much as Raducanu. This year, neither performed well, and both were eliminated from the competition early, losing nearly all of their points.
For Fernandez, who fell 26 spots to number 40 in the standings, it was less devastating. The repercussions won't be as severe as Raducanu's, though. Emma slipped 72 ranks to 83, which presents a significant challenge for Raducanu.
She will play in Portoroz later today in an effort to earn some points before the season is over. The draws for the new year would be extremely difficult, so she wouldn't want to be outside the top 50. Despite this, Raducanu accepted the drop, saying it was a new beginning for her and that she was eager to prove herself in a more traditional way.
Some other notable drops include Angelique Kerber who dropped 19 spots to number 69. She did not play at the US Open due to being pregnant. You can see the WTA Rankings by clicking here.
