'I'm Not Carlos Alcaraz': Gauff Reacts To Her 'Worst Shot Of The Year'

Coco Gauff won the 2024 ASB Classic in Auckland and likely would have won the worst shot of the event if there had been such an award.

Gauff's 2024 season started with a really great week in Auckland, where she won last year. She did it again this year by beating Elina Svitolina in the final; however, not everything went smoothly for her during the event.

In the final, she actually lost the opening set but then won the match in three sets, which she was happy about. One thing she wasn't too happy about was one of the drop shots she attempted in her previous match.

Gauff worked on her game during the off-season, hoping to add a bit of variety to her game. It's just part of developing a more diverse weapons arsenal, which will make her a better player overall.

The drop shot was apparently also one of the things that she worked on, so she tried to utilize it in Auckland, but one of the attempts was quite disastrous, and the teenager was aware of it.

Today was just one really bad one. I don't even know what that was. It landed on my side. It has to be the worst shot of the year. I couldn't do anything but laugh. I was working on my drop shots, I'm not Carlos Alcaraz.

She certainly is not Carlos Alcaraz, but she's equally talented. With time, there is no reason to think that her drop shots won't be as good as that of the Spaniard.

After all, the year is young, and there will be plenty of other candidates for the worst shot of the year.

I did hit a really good one today so I'm happy with that. Hopefully, I can continue to get better. That one bounced two feet in front one. It was hilarious. I'd rate my drop shots 6/10 but they saved my life in some scenarios so I can't get too upset.
