Iga Swiatek vs Yulia Putintseva: 2024 Indian Wells Open - Preview & Prediction

Iga Swiatek is looking really good in Indian Wells so far, but what happens when she faces a tricky player in Yulia Puntintseva?

Putitnseva is a pretty interesting tennis player who can sometimes play some amazing tennis. She mostly doesn't, but she's still a pretty decent player that any opponent has to take seriously.

The conditions in Indian Wells are pretty good for her because she generally prefers slower courts that allow her time to really set up. She has some good angles and generally moves rather well around the court.

The same is true for Swiatek, who is also a very good player with tremendous movement. It's part of why she won this WTA 1000 event in California a few years ago, even though her run last year didn't go as well. She's back to playing well this year, and she'll try to back that up against Putintseva

Head-to-head:

Despite both being around for a while, it's the first time we're going to get them playing against each other. Generally, the hard courts suit the style of Swiatke more because I think she has more power in her game which is quite crucial here.

Essentially, Swiatke will eventually be able to overpower her opponent, and I don't know how likely that is when it comes to Putitnseva. She could possibly bait some errors, but I don't see it.

Prediction:

Overall, I think Swiatek is both the better player and just playing better right now. The court really helps superior players, and I think the Polish player will simply benefit from that. I expect her to keep it simple and win in two sets.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in two sets.
