Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur will battle it out at the WTA Finals so who exactly will come out on top in that matchup? Let's find out in the preview.
Swiatek has been spectacular this year, and while some will say that she wasn't, it's mostly because she was otherwordly last year. If you compare her to last year then yes, you will be disappointed by this year.
She won a Grand Slam, she won other trophies, and arrived at the WTA Finals as one of the favourites. I'd say that's a pretty good year.
Jabeur has had a good year, winning two solid trophies, but she lost the Wimbledon final, and that's going to mark this one as a disappointment either way. She hopes to turn it around at the WTA Finals, but it will be tricky.
Head-to-head:
Beating Swiatek would certainly be a good way to do it, and it's not like it didn't happen before. They played six matches so far, and two of those were won by Jabeur. Both wins actually happened in 2021, and since then, we've seen three matches, and all three were won by the Polish player.
The most recent one was a retirement by Jabeur, but the previous one was the US Open final, which Swiatek won in two sets.
Prediction:
Generally, Swiatek has been better in recent efforts. I think that's what's going to happen this time around as well. I could see Jabeur giving her problems, but I don't see her really playing the consistent match she needs to play to take down the Polish superstar.
The conditions in Cancun will certainly impact both players as neither played on this court before, but I expect Swiatek to handle it better than Jabeur. The Tunisian is far too streaky for my liking.
Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in two sets.
