'Two Sides To Every Story': Barty Backs Halep Over Doping Case

Simona Halep has yet to clear her name in her highly publicised doping case that saw her provisionally banned from the sport after the 2022 US Open.

Halep got banned from tennis after one of her US Open samples tested positive for a banned substance. The Romanian provided another sample not long after that but it tested positive for the same substance again which upheld the suspension.

Since then Halep has been on a mission to clear her name and there was supposed to be a hearing in March. No news came leaving many confused as to what happened because initial reports from Romania suggested that Halep identified a supplement as the culprit of the banned substance.

Her former coach Darren Cahill was adamant that Halep would never take a banned substance noting how paranoid she was during his time with her. Everything was double and even triple-checked in order to see whether it complies with the rules.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, rival and former colleague Ashleigh Barty expressed hope that Halep will be given a chance to explain her side of the story fully. They are not alone in that regard as many spoke out in her favour following the news of the suspension.

I love Simo and I respect Simo. I’ve spoken to her a little bit over the last 12 months or so, just checking in to see how she is going. She is an exceptional person. I really sincerely hope that she has an opportunity to have her say and to explain her side, because there are always two sides to every story.

I think you’d be struggling to find anyone who wouldn’t want to see her back out there doing what she absolutely loves, which is competing on a big stage against the best in the world.
