Coco Gauff promised to fight for better terms regarding schedules in tennis after the recent run of controversies.
Late finishes have been a talking point in tennis for a while now, as almost no player is a fan of it. It doesn't matter if it's the ATP or the WTA; it will always go badly for the players involved. A recent outburst by Elena Rybakina prompted more players to speak on it.
We're seeing more and more players sharing their thoughts about it, and it's good to see them putting up a fight because some of these finishes are rather inhumane. It's incredibly annoying, considering it's solely done for profit, which means very little to the players.
The US Open even confirmed that by doubling down on their late finishes at this year's event. When it comes to Gauff, she's determined to do anything she can to help with the matter, but there is not much players can do, and the young American talked about it at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters.
Unfortunately, I think Elena and Iga said the same, there is not much the players can do in that situation. We can fight. For me, when I had that night match against Marketa and that was because of the rain, I really fought for the not-before 1:30 time, or not before 2:00, that saved me the extra 30 minutes in the morning, which means a lot in sleeping terms.
Yeah, but, you know, it's tough, because, you know, the tournament is trying to work with TV, and TV is working. There is a lot of things people don't realize. It's not as easy as just saying, Let's move all the matches up, because we still have to sell our sport.
Let's see what happens with this, but it's pretty well understood that the players won't be able to do much. Gauff is hoping for a compromise, though.
Yeah, there definitely has to be some type of compromise. I know that the player council is working on it pretty hard, but there is not much they can do, to be honest.
