Alcaraz Opens Up About Advice He Gave Zverev To Beat Medvedev

Alexander Zverev seemingly got some tips on how to beat Daniil Medvedev from Carlos Alcaraz during a recent golf session, and now we know what was said.

Alexander Zverev had trouble beating Daniil Medvedev for a while, but the German finally won a match against him at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters. It was long overdue, and the credit apparently goes to Carlos Alcaraz. Speaking after the match, Zverev said that he got tips from Alcaraz as the Spaniard easily bested Medvedev at Indian Wells earlier this year.

Alcaraz was naturally asked about what sort of tips he gave to Zverev, and he explained how it all happened. They had time before they got to the golf course, and they asked each other questions, including that one, and Alcaraz gave him his blueprint.

The golf course was about 30 minutes away from where we were staying, and in those 30 minutes that we were together we had a lot of time for talking. We asked each other a few things, and that was one of his questions.

He told me that I had just come off a very comfortable win against Daniil, and he asked me what was the right tactic? How did I do it? And you know, I’m a nice kid… I think I’m a bit naive in that way, so I told him how I approached the match.

Obviously, it needs to be said that Medvedev didn't play a good match in either of those contests, especially the one against Zverev. He was actually closer to winning the match than losing but collapsed towards the end. When it comes to sharing knowledge, Alcaraz thinks it's normal.

It’s the same as with a lot of players, if I have a question I ask my peers and they ask me as well, and I tell them. At the end of the day, he has his own team and he has his coach, his own way of preparing for matches…But yeah, when someone asks me, I tell them what I’m feeling.
