'We Have A Chance Against Him': Zverev Jokes After Playing Golf With Alcaraz

by Nurein Ahmed

Carlos Alcaraz is unbeaten in his last 14 tennis matches, but it looks like Alexander Zverev defeated him in a recent casual golf session in Toronto.

Alcaraz and Zverev will kick off their North American hard-court swing at next week's Canadian Open in Toronto, where the 20-year-old Spaniard is the tournament's top seed. Alcaraz has a bye in the first round, while Zverev will open up against Tallon Griekspoor.

And fresh from winning the 20th ATP title of his career in his home city in Hamburg, Zverev lasted little time in keeping the ball rolling, not on the tennis courts, but on a golf course. His opponent was none other than ATP world number Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard was coming in with a wave of momentum, having won titles at Queen's and a second major title at Wimbledon, beating Novak Djokovic in five sets. And the two stars took time to break the monotony of the wand in favor of the putters where Zverev later shared on his Instagram their confrontation, which was likely won by the German.

"I have good news everyone, we have a chance against him in golf."

Zverev posted on his IG of his confrontation with Alcaraz in golf

Zverev and Alcaraz are in opposite halves of the draw in Toronto. Zverev is a former champion at the Canadian Open, winning the event during its staging in Montreal back in 2017 where he defeated Roger Federer in straight sets. He missed the trip last season due to a gruesome ankle injury he sustained at Roland Garros.

For the Spaniard, it will be just his second visit to the event. Last year, Alcaraz suffered a surprise second-round defeat to USA's Tommy Paul who saved a match point to win in three sets. But despite a subpar campaign in the tuneup events, Alcaraz comfortably won his first Grand Slam title at last year's US Open.
