This was a match everybody wanted to see, and it certainly didn't disappoint as both Coco Gauff and Caroline Wozniacki showed up to fight for the quarterfinal spot at the 2023 US Open.

Due to the timing of their births, Gauff and Wozniacki never played before this match on the WTA Tour. By the time the Dane was bidding farewell to the sport, Guaff was only getting started. Nowadays, Gauff is one of the best players in the world.

She arrived in New York with a clear goal of winning the event and doing that meant beating Wozniacki in the 4th round. It's been a highly-anticipated match, and eventually, the young American pushed through.

The crowd at the Arthur Ashed Stadium backed Gauff, and that certainly contributed to her win. Wozniacki opened with an early break but couldn't hold it for much longer. Gauff opted to be the more aggressive player, which was expected, but she didn't find her precision until later in the set.

Wozniacki missed more than she hit in the opening set, which was the case for the American too, though she had far more winners. The American had 13 winners compared to only 3 by Wozniacki and that was enough for the 6-3 opening set.

The second set opened with Gauff missing a bit more, which gave Wozniacki a couple of early break points, though she didn't use any of them. Gauff would miss badly with her forehand to give the break a chance but then hit a good serve or hit a good forehand to erase it.

At 4-3 in the second set, Gauff handed two more break points to Wozniacki with two double faults in the game, and this time around, the Danish player took the break. She finished the set and opened the final one with an early break but returned it immediately.

From there, it was a pretty smooth cruise towards the finish line because Wozniacki simply couldn't keep up. The energy wasn't there, and Gauff rolled by, winning six games in a row. The final score was 6-3 3-6 6-1 for the American, who moves on to the quarter-finals for the second time in a row. Up next, she will face the winner of the match between Iga Swiatek and Jelena Ostapenko.
