'Worst Year At My Job Is Still Traveling the World': Keys Focuses On Positives In Bad Times

Madison Keys has had an interesting career so far, but she's okay with it because, in the end, it's far from terrible.

Keys has been a fine player for much of her career, and while she didn't win a Grand Slam or do some other legendary things, it's still a very good career on the WTA Tour. She's in the 4th round of the US Open with a chance to go to the quarter-final if she beats Jessica Pegula.

The US Open has been the place where she had her biggest success reaching the final a few years ago but also losing in the final. Asked about her career following her most recent win at the US Open, Keys opened up and shared her thoughts.

I think that there's obviously been some really great highs and there's been some lows. I think when you're looking at people's careers, almost everyone has a year or two that are really tough.

Being able to kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel in those years and just keep the best perspective that you can during those years is the most important, because I think those are the years that can really feel like they're taking years off of your career.

Keeping a perspective is very important because, as Nick Kyrgios once explained, you're always losing in tennis. Pretty much every week unless you end up as the champion, and it's a unique sport in that way. You have to know how to handle it to stay motivated.

Keys has been able to do so for many years, but it helps that it's not the toughest thing in the world. Travelling the world and playing a sport sounds fun in her mind even though some players really dislike that part of it.

So just having a better perspective of, I mean, my worst year at my job is still traveling the world and playing tennis. Realistically it's not that bad.
