Jannik Sinner has a dedicated fan base called the Carota Boys, and as you might expect, they're also in New York at the 2023 US Open.
Tennis players having fans is not new, and even very dedicated fans have been seen before. The emergence of the Carota Boys has been quite fascinating to observe. They are dedicated fans of Jannik Sinner, and the fact that he once ate a carrot during a changeover has been the inspiration for their name.
Sinner is well aware of them and has interacted with them before expressing gratitude towards the support that travels with him. He referenced that when he was asked about it following his most recent win at the US Open.
It's nice to see them every time that I play, no? I follow them also on the socials, and, you know, they may cause funny videos and everything. I met them after the match now, just a quick handshake for the first time. Our relationship that is just started.
Yeah, it's nice to see them, no? I knew when they were doing like this, that maybe they are a little bit different than the other fans. I guess that was the case, so I'm very happy to have them (smiling).
Sinner is hoping that they stay in New York as long as possible because that would mean he went deep in the event. He was in the semi-final last year and is hoping to go even further this time around. The next step in that journey is a match against Alexander Zverev, a player who bested him at the US Open once already.
In our preview, we laid out the facts tipping Sinner to get revenge. He's been in spectacular form recently with the Toronto triumph, and he hopes to give the Carota Boys a reason to celebrate. Whether that truly happens remains to be seen.
