Holger Rune was seen practicing with one of the legends of the game,
Andre Agassi, and he spoke about their partnership afterward.
Rune is one of the most talented players on the
ATP Tour. He proved that in 2022 when he won the Paris Masters, beating Novak Djokovic in the final of the Masters tournament. Since then, however, he has struggled a bit to return to the top.
In 2025, the Danish player became a stable Top 10 contender again. After stabilizing himself, he feels it's time to take another step forward, trying to catch up with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who have dominated the Tour for the past couple of years.
In an attempt to improve his game,
Rune was seen practicing under one of the legends of the game ahead of the 2025
Citi Open in Washington. The 22-year-old was on the court with the seven-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi.
It was an unexpected collaboration for many tennis fans, but for Rune, it was a great experience. The 2022 Paris Masters winner spoke about it during the media day in Washington, saying that he reached out to Agassi, trying to get some insights from him.
The former American player was obviously open to helping Rune, and the youngster enjoyed practicing under the former ATP World No. 1 player.
"It was nice. We've been in touch for a while, and we did a couple of days together here in Washington, where he was helping me with a few things, giving his opinion. It was really a big pleasure. He’s a very, very wise man. I've never met a guy who sees the game this way."
Rune knows that to become a successful player like Agassi, he still needs to improve a lot, something the 55-year-old American told him as well. The Dane thinks that the insight from Agassi could help him navigate his career in the right direction.
"Obviously, he had an amazing return himself, and I also return well, and he had a few tips there and how I can be slightly better there, and then in general about the game. It was a really short period, but definitely he gave me an insight into where he sees me in the future, where he sees me now, and obviously there are a lot of things to improve."
"He helped me to get my focus and my eyes on the right things, together with my coach Lars [Christensen]. It was really cool to spend some days with him. I’ve watched a lot of him on YouTube and his style and the way of playing was amazing. His career speaks for itself."
Naturally, Rune was also asked whether he could imagine having Agassi in his corner for a long-term collaboration. He clearly showed interest in doing that, so a possible partnership could be on the horizon.
"He’s a great man, so I would definitely like that."
Rune will want to prove his qualities at the ATP 500 event in Washington, where he is the third seed. He will start his tournament against the winner of the match between Beibit Zhukayev and Alexandre Muller.
