Djokovic Aware Of Lacklustre Preparation For Roland Garros

Novak Djokovic is an extremely hard worker and generally prepares really well for events however this time it hasn't been that good.

The Serb didn't play as many matches as he hoped he would this clay season. Things went bad rather quickly when an elbow injury arose at the Monte-Carlo Masters and it's been a persistent thing throughout all of his matches on clay this year.

A pull-out from Madrid only made fans more worried and when Djokovic had to put on the brace after just one game in Rome, things seemed rather bleak. An early exit to Rune in Rome certainly didn't add any more optimism to the whole thing but Djokovic knows his body and he was able to get himself ready for the event. It hasn't been smooth or perfect but he's in Paris which means that he can win it.

I know how to, how to manage myself and my team and look, you know, I haven't had a fantastic preparation prior to Roland-Garros. But, you know, I'm always saying that Roland-Garros is where I want to peak. So I'm, I'm aiming for that and I'm hoping that I come to life and come to reality here.

One thing working in favour of Djokovic is the format of the event. Winning a best of five match is a totally different ballgame compared to winning a best of three match and generally, it favours the player who has more experience. Djokovic has plenty and that's something he will have an advantage in when it comes to some of these matchups with younger players.

I actually think that the, the grand slams are a whole different ball game as they like to say, or a whole different sport really because it, it's played in, you know, best of five. I think because of the importance of this event in the history of our sport, it just adds a bit more pressure, it adds also a bit more motivation. So I'm ready to give it all as, as I always have.

He dismissed talk about being the favourite but he will certainly be among the players likely to win.
