Amanda Anisimova is currently on a mental health break away from tennis but she's still missing the sport while on her break.
Anisimova made headlines around the world when she made the Roland Garros semi-final as a 17-year-old. She won the first set against Ashleigh Barty but ultimately lost in three sets with Barty going all the way and winning the trophy.
Since then it's been somewhat of a mixed bag with the American never getting back to that high of a level. A combination of injuries, and her own personal demons, kept her away from getting back to her best on the WTA Tour. Last year was a pretty good year overall as she posted a 33-14 record overall reaching the 4th round of Roland Garros and the quarter-final of Wimbledon.
This year hasn't looked as great with a 3-14 record and after losing in the first round of the Madrid Open, Anisimova announced a break from tennis. She explained that burnout from last year is the culprit behind her bad results this year and she's going to take some time off and recharge. Almost a month later, Anisimova has now provided an update admitting that she's missing the sport.
Missing this part of me. Stepping away from the game has made me really realize how much work, sweat, tears, and pain I've experienced for this sport. With that being said, I am so proud of myself.
Anisimova hasn't specified in her update whether she is planning to make a comeback anytime soon but she seems to be enjoying some time off to recharge her batteries. Wimbledon last year was one of her best but she's not on the entry list this year. There is a chance she still plays but it seems like her return might happen at the US Open stretch later this year.
