Angelique Kerber will make a comeback next year, and she provided some positive updates in a talk with Porsche.
Angelique Kerber hasn't played in a while due to becoming a mother, but she's going to make a comeback next year. The comeback will happen at the 2024 United Cup, and she's been preparing for it in the last couple of weeks.
The German sat down with Porsche to discuss some things, including her comeback next year as she's a brand ambassador for the company. She admitted that so far, everything is going according to plan, which is great to hear.
Everything is going to plan. My preparation for the Australian Open is obviously totally different, simply because it’s three times as long as normal. It’s all going well. I still actually have a bit of time to go. My goal is to be ready for the first match when we fly to Australia right after Christmas.
Kerber will become one of a few players who made a return to tennis as a mother, and it's certainly going to be an interesting experience. Those before her didn't really have any trouble and actually played really well.
Players like Elina Svitolina and Caroline Wozniacki looked really solid upon their return. Her first event back will be the United Cup, after which she'll play in Adelaide and then the Australian Open.
It seems like the goal is to get in a few matches before the big event, and it makes sense. She needs it to adjust to the higher level because practicing is not enough.
Yes. I’ll play the United Cup in Sydney and I’m looking forward to kicking off my comeback by playing for Team Germany in my first match back. My schedule before the Australian Open also takes in the tournament in Adelaide.
