2023 Italian Open Rome Masters WTA Draw with Sabalenka, Swiatek & more

| by Zachary Wimer

The WTA event of the 2023 Italian Open in Rome will run from May 9th to 20th and the draw was already released.

After a successful event in Madrid which ended in a spectacular final between the two highest-ranked players, players move to Rome for the 2023 Italian Open where they will attend the last WTA 1000 event before eventually moving to Paris for the second major of the season.

Last year, Iga Swiatek won the event after a dominant performance, and she will enter the tournament once again as the top seed. This time, the young Pole will begin her journey against the winner of the match between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Sara Errani, since all the seeded players have a bye in the first round in a new 96-player format.

The second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka will be also looking to use her first-round bye to rest after the demanding week in the Spanish capital. But already in the second round, she will face a challenge from either former Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin or Cristina Bucsa.

Although the clay-court events have been dominated by the top two seeds over the past few weeks, the list of title contenders is long in Rome. Elena Rybakina is the second player in the 2023 WTA Race, and she will try to show her qualities in the Italian capital, starting against either Jasmine Paolini or Xinyu Wang.

But there are many more players that want to shine. Coco Gauff experienced a grueling defeat in Madrid and she will want to forget it in the second round of the 2023 Italian Open against the winner of the match between Yulia Putinsteva and a qualifier.

The third-seeded Jessica Pegula will be also one of the names to look for as the American will play against one of the qualifiers in the second round. Last year's finalist, Ons Jabeur is the fourth seed and she will try to defend her points, and her campaign will start already in the second round against Paula Badosa or a qualifier.

The draw for the 2023 Italian Open Rome Masters is packed with star names and to see all first and second round matchups, be sure to check it out below.
