Judy Murray, mother to former World No. 1 Andy and doubles expert Jamie, has retired from the world of tennis coaching and wishes now to fulfil a lifelong dream of becoming a published writer.
Her first book, a fictional novel on tennis, is due to be published in June of this year, after the 63-year-old signed a two-year book deal with publishing giant Orion per Scottish Express.
Murray, from Dunblane near Stirling, announced in June last year that she will be retiring from the sport to begin her writing career.
Writing on social media last year, Judy said, "If I hadn't been a tennis coach, I think I would have become a writer or an editor. It's a tale of triumph over adversity and it's set within a major event in the tennis calendar".
A stalwart of tennis and long-time advocate for women's sports, Judy Murray explained a little about her novel and what has inspired it.
"It is set in the tennis world and features a female lead character who proves it's never too late to follow your dreams. It's fiction. But I obviously have many years of experience in the world of women's tennis. You get to a stage of life where you want to spend more time with your family and doing things for yourself. I've been committed to trying to grow tennis across Scotland for well over 30 years".
"It's time for the next generation to step up and take over that because I think I've served my time."
It marks the start of a new chapter for Judy, who has dedicated much of her life to the sport that served both her sons so well.
If Judy's raising and coaching of Andy and Jamie are anything to go by, tennis's latest fan fiction novel is in excellent hands.
UPDATE: Judy Murray clarified the situation, stating:
“I’m not retiring. Merely cutting back to be able to try new things. And it wasn’t a lifelong dream.”
