Lauren Davis is an American professional tennis player who was born on October 9, 1993, in Boca Raton, United States. Starting the sport a bit later than is conventional for professionals nowadays (9), Davis’s talent made sure that did not matter.

She enjoyed a flourishing career on the junior tour, with her reaching as high as world number 3. A stellar run towards the end of her junior career helped her into her WTA and Grand Slam debut in 2011, when she was given a wildcard into the first round of the Australian Open.

Despite a freak injury in her first professional season, she came back in 2012 in a fighting spirit. Getting a win in the first round of the Indian Wells Open gave her good momentum to push on to achieve a further Slam appearance at Roland Garros.

As the years passed, her ranking and status on the WTA only improved, with her reaching her first WTA semifinal in 2015 at the ASB Classic in Auckland before going on to reach her first finals the following season in Washington and Quebec.

Back in New Zealand after 2016’s final loss in 2017, Davis made sure to go one step further, and claim what was her first WTA title. She continued along the same vein, reaching her career-high ranking of world number 26 in May 2017, but questionable form in the Slams meant she dipped off in terms of rankings towards the end of the season.

After a COVID-19-disturbed start to the 2020s, she regained her form in the coming years. It was not until 2023, though, that she really re-established her name when she went and won her second WTA title at the Hobart International.

Coming into the tournament ranked as world number 84, she made sure to pass the qualifying event before beating players such as Sloane Stephens and Anna Blinkova to claim her second career title.
