Following his horror fall against Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev has come out to update fans on the severity of the injury.
The German took a serious-looking tumble during his semi-final match-up with the King of Clay Nadal at Roland Garros, with tennis fans all over the world left worrying about the severity of his injury.
It was perhaps the manner in which he left the court that has left people worrying for him. After screaming to the floor in pain, he was forced off on a wheelchair due to not being able to walk properly.
The tennis world has since been left in the dark over how it was affecting the German and his team, but he has come out in the wake of the incident to offer an early update on what he went through.
"A very difficult moment for me today on the court. Obviously, a fantastic match until what happened, happened. It looks like I have a very serious injury. But the medical team and the doctors are still checking on it."
He also used this opportunity to congratulate Nadal on reaching yet another final at Roland Garros.
"I want to congratulate Rafa, obviously. It's an incredible achievement, a 14th final, and hopefully, he can go all the way and make some more history."
Only time will tell if Zverev's injury is, in fact, as serious as first feared. There are, as expected, many unanswered questions over the exact gravity of the injury, but according to the early signs, things do not look good for the German.
It is too early to say when and where we can expect to see Zverev back on the court hitting, but it may be a longer time out than any would have wished for a player who was arguably coming into a rosy patch of his career.
