The 2025 Iasi Open is scheduled from July 14th to 20th, and the
prize money and ranking points have become known.
This year's Iasi Open will be contested the week after the 2025 Wimbledon Championships and simultaneously with the 2025 Hamburg Open. Yulia Putintseva, Tatjana Maria, and Eva Lys are among those
on the Hamburg Open entry list.
As usual, the entry list for a
WTA 250 tournament held immediately after Wimbledon is weaker than at other times of the season. Nonetheless, some names should still excite fans enough to buy tickets.
Maria Sakkari is the most high-profile player on the entry list. The 2021 French Open semifinalist hopes to find some consistency in Iasi after an inconsistent 2025 since returning from a severe shoulder injury.
Despite those challenges and usually being among the nicest players on the WTA Tour, Sakkari showed the passion she still has for the sport
in a heated exchange with Yulia Putintseva at the 2025 Bad Homburg Open.
Other women on the entry list include
Alycia Parks and
Elina Avanesyan. They will compete for the ranking points and the highest share of a prize money pot of $275,094.
The 2025 Iasi Open champion will receive $36,300 and 250 ranking points. Mirra Andreeva won her maiden WTA title at last year's iteration, overcoming Avanesyan in the final after she retired in the third set.
Tournament organizers undoubtedly did their best to convince Andreeva to return. Unsurprisingly, the 18-year-old has decided not to play the week after Wimbledon and focus on the North American hard-court swing.
The 2024 Iasi Open was its first year as a WTA 250 tournament, and it did enough to convince the WTA to retain its status at that level. That means the event can afford to give the 2025 runner-up $21,484 and 163 points.
Andreeva's semifinal match with Olga Danilovic was the best match of last year's tournament. After a battle filled with terrific shot-making from both women, the teenager needed a deciding set tiebreak to triumph.
Chloe Paquet was the other defeated 2024 semifinalist. The players who replicate what Danilovic and Paquet achieved will avail of $11,970 and 98 points for that solid run. That is not a bad reward.
Financial and ranking point incentives continue to drop from the quarterfinal stage. The four women who are beaten at that stage of the Iasi Open will collect $6,820 and 54 ranking points for getting through two rounds at the event.
The difference in prize money between the round of 32 and the round of 16 is minuscule. $4,470 and $3,110 are the respective financial rewards. 25 and one ranking point will be given for losing in the second or opening round.
Many fans understandably switch off after a Grand Slam. Hopefully, the Iasi Open can generate enough attention to help with attendance figures for the Romanian tournament.
Tennis fans have the luxury of choosing between multiple events during weeks when the ATP and WTA players are not playing Grand Slams or Masters 1000s.
