The 2024 Laver Cup will be held in Berlin, and top German player, Alexander Zverev, will be there alongside Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz.
Roger Federer admitted that he tried to bring Alcaraz to the Laver Cup, and it finally worked out this year. Alcaraz was the first player to commit to the competition this year, doing so incredibly early, which shows how eagerly he was pursued.
When it comes to the rest of the team, we'll see it slowly taking shape with two more players signing up for the competition. They are Medvedev and Zverev, who have already played in the competition.
Last year's edition was a painful one for Team Europe as they lost, so everybody expected them to come back strong this year. That's what Team Captain Bjorn Borg echoed in the statement.
"Team Europe is super motivated to win back the Cup in Berlin. With Daniil, Sascha and Carlos on my team, I think we have an excellent chance of making that happen. The guys have had an incredible start to the year, and this is a really strong first half of our lineup. I’m thrilled to have these champions in the fold for 2024."
Zverev wasn't going to miss this year's Laver Cup because it's being played in Germany. Berlin will be a great hosting site, and Zverev is excited to experience the event on home soil. As he said in his statement, this won't happen often, so he had to take the chance and play.
"I’m so excited about returning to Laver Cup. he atmosphere is always electric and for the Laver Cup to be at home in Germany, for me in particular, is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
Medvedev also returns to the competition after missing it last year, and he's excited to experience a unique team event with players he considers rivals on most days once more.
"For me, the most exciting thing about Laver Cup is always the team spirit, because it’s very rare that I get to play team competitions in tennis. Having Carlos and Sascha on our team will help a lot because they are two of the best players in the world and I’m really excited to try and get Team Europe back to their winning ways."
