Jimmy Connors holds the record for most singles trophies with 109, but Djokovic is slowly threatening to overtake him.

While the journey is still long, Djokovic is slowly coming up on that number as he currently sits at 97 with a chance to win number 98 this week at the ATP Finals. The Serbian begins his campaign later today against Holger Rune as he looks to continue his winning streak.

He's won 18 consecutive matches dating back to the US Open, with his most recent loss being the Wimbledon loss to Alcaraz. With a form like that, it's not impossible to see Djokovic win a few more trophies and possibly eclipse the record of Connors, which stood for a very long time.

The legendary player hosts a tennis podcast weekly where he discusses the sport, and in the most recent episode of the Advantage Connors podcast, he talked about Djokovic potentially surpassing him.

I've had a good run. I don't know what it is, the number, you know, 109 has stood. And if somebody's going to come up and beat that, God damn, good luck to him! Sometimes being in the finals ain't a bad thing.

I finished a long time ago, 35 years ago with 109, it has stood a long time and if somebody passes me, you better be pretty freaking good, you know? And if that happens, on you go.

As you can probably tell from the way he spoke about it, Connors is still very competitive. He'd like his record to stand, of course, but I'm sure he'll be okay with Djokovic ultimately passing him. Being second to the greatest player of all time isn't so bad, but we'll see.

And for him, go far it. If you play another two or three years or whatever and bypass me. Do I like the record? Yeah, but records are made to be broken, right? And if somebody comes up and does it, go for it. Good on you.

The Serbian won six trophies this year, so he's on pace to surpass Connors in two years if everything goes well.
