'Would Have Been A Nice Little Run': Kyrgios Bemoans Wimbledon Absence

by Alfredo Bassanelli

Nick Kyrgios was unable to participate in this year's Wimbledon due to a wrist issue and but the event is on his mind.

After finally proving last year that he belongs to the top of the ATP Tour, fans hoped for another strong showing from Kyrgios. It's been anything but as the Australian struggled mightily with injuries playing only a handful of matches.

He withdrew from the Australian Open due to a knee injury that required a procedure which he had in January. A recovery that was supposed to take weeks ended up being months as the Australian struggled to nurse himself back to health. He finally made his return on the grass but his performance in Stuttgart left many fans more worried than anything else.

He complained about knee pain to his team and then withdrew from both Halle and Mallorca after that. It was clear that something wasn't right and we found out ahead of Wimbledon when he pulled out before the event due to a wrist injury.

Many initially assumed that the knee would keep him away from playing but it wasn't the knee, it was a wrist injury. In any case, Kyrgios is not on the grass these days though the event is on his mind. He posted a story on Instagram bemoaning not being there on the grass competing.

Missing Wimby. Wish I was healthy woulda been a nice little run.

There is no indication when Kyrgios will return as wrist injuries can be really tricky to overcome though many expect him to be ready for the US Open. He played really well at the event last year as the condition suit his style of play very well. Time will tell as Kyrgios himself didn't speak on it yet. He did post a story with his hand in a brace using the word 'soon'.

Hopefully see you all soon when I'm healthy.
