Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Daniil Medvedev are fighting for the top spot in the year-end bonus pool.
This incentive, announced by the ATP, will reward the Top 30 players who have accumulated the most points at the nine Masters 1000 events and the ATP Finals. The bonus prize is to the tune of $20 million, although its distribution has not been revealed.
Alcaraz topped the list ahead of the ATP Finals and still occupies that spot following his majestic straight-sets win over Daniil Medvedev that secured his spot in the semifinal stage. The Spaniard has earned 400 points at this event so far, taking his points tally to 3,685.
Medvedev briefly led the list, but his defeat to Alcaraz means his total points remain at 3,595. Sinner is third on the list. It is the same spot he was in coming to the ATP Finals. The power-hitting Italian secured a perfect record in the group stage, earning the biggest win of his career over Novak Djokovic.
Sinner has accumulated 600 points in this tournament and sits just behind Medvedev and Alcaraz with 3,200 points. Incidentally, Medvedev and Sinner are set to square off in a key semifinal clash that could potentially determine the overall winner. Sinner will need to win the title, at the very least, to top the list.
Alcaraz will need to topple Novak Djokovic who defeated him during their last clash on hard courts in Cincinnati. The 20-year-old appears to have got his mojo back after winning two matches in the group.
Also to note, the $20 million is part of ATP's OneVision plan. The bonus purse at this level accounts for the highest chunk to be rewarded to the players this season.
The ATP has committed a staggering $33.5 million as part of the bonus pool of which $1.3 million has been distributed at the ATP 500 level, and $12.5 million is to be shared on a 50-50 basis between players and tournaments.
