Rune, Sinner & Thiem To Headline Popular Exhibition At Start Of 2024 Season

The 2024 Kooyong Classic will have a pretty decent field, with Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner, and Dominic Thiem all signing up.

The Kooyong Classic has been a longstanding exhibition event held in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Open to allow players to get used to playing some tennis Down Under.

The event being held in Melbourne just ahead of the Australian Open makes it a really solid place to prepare for the event, as the transition into the event seems seamless.

The last edition was held this year with some big names in attendance and the upcoming 33rd edition of the event will also see some big names take part in the event. So far, we have five players confirmed for the tournament: Jannik Sinner, Dominic Thiem, Holger Rune, Zhizhen Zhang, and Karen Khachanov.

It promises to be a pretty interesting event with those big names in attendance and will be a great warm-up for the real thing that will happen a few days later. Sinner generally avoids playing in the week leading up to the Grand Slam, so it will be interesting to see how he does this time around.

His rise in recent weeks has been spectacular to see. Thiem actually played at the exhibition last year, losing to Alex de Minaur in two sets but beating Frances Tiafoe in two sets.

We'll see how he'll do next year as the only returning player alongside Zhizhen Zhang. This year will be the first time Holger Rune will play at the event as well. He took part in competitive events last year, and that didn't go so well.

Let's see whether this approach goes better, as he actually played really well at the Australian Open, getting to the 4th round. The event will take place from January 10th to the 12th in the days before the 2024 Australian Open.
