Rune Explains Why 'Super Pumped' Mom Has 'Huge Influence' On Him

Holger Rune is in the 2023 Wimbledon Championships quarter-final, and after his win, the Dane talked about the influence of his mother.

Holger Rune has a very close relationship with both of his parents but especially his mother, as she has been his biggest fan since the earliest of days. The Dane travels with his mother and his coach, which is quite interesting as, generally, we've seen fathers do the traveling with their kids if they are part of the coaching staff.

His mother has always been a very crucial figure for him, somebody who is there to pick him up when he's down, and after all, the role of a mother is crucial in anybody's life. For him, she keeps him focused on what he wants to achieve, and he has really high ambitions.

She's a huge influence. She really helps to kind of keep me in the perfect state of mind. Obviously she knows me better than anybody. Yeah, I mean, honestly that's also why she's traveling with me for every tournament.

I want her for every tournament. I want her there because I really feel the support. Also if I feel like I have something that I want to get off my heart or something, I can always come to her and talk. We have this very unique relationship.

Besides his mother, who was the loudest in his box, everybody was super pumped for the win. It was a strong performance from Rune who didn't have a single win on grass until recently. He praised his box for the support they gave him, as well as the crowd which was engaged during the whole match.

Support in general on the court was incredible, again for both players. Really, really cool. Yeah, the support from my box today was one of the best ever. Also we talked about it after. They had a lot of fun. It was cool because I was super locked in today, focused, ready to battle until it's over. My mom was super pumped.

As we all talk about it in the team, there is Wimbledon once a year, you have to go full, do everything it takes to win, and leave your heart out there. I feel very, very privileged that I have a team and family that supports me from the heart. I really felt that especially today, but of course I feel it always. But I really felt it today.
