Juan Martin Del Potro retired in Buenos Aires last year but the Argentine will give it another go in hopes of making a return at the US Open.

Del Potro's biggest career moment came at the US Open over a decade ago when he defeated Roger Federer as a teenager to win his maiden grand slam. Many expected a few to follow that one but ultimately we didn't see him lift another Grand Slam trophy in his career.

Injuries proved too costly and forced him into early retirement. Last year, the tall Argentinian hinted that he may come back to tennis in 2023 and now it seems that the comeback may become reality as he revealed in a recent interview.

I love tennis, it will never be a problem to pick up a racquet and see how I feel. The physical problem and my knee are things I work on every day. I’m going to leave that window open, at least until the US Open as I said. This is the most special tournament for me. I still have time, I will start training, see how my leg and knee react and if I can do it or not.

As he explained in the above quote, Del Potro will give the sport another try by trying out his knee on the court. If everything goes well he might make a return to the US Open due to the invitation he received last year when he attended it as a fan.

Del Potro had an incredible career and achieved so much but he didn't achieve all of his dreams. He recently admitted that being number one was a big dream of his but ultimately he didn't get it done due to his injuries and some guys named Federer, Djokovic and Nadal.

The only thing I lacked was being world No 1. It was always a dream and I worked hard for it. I’m proud of my career but I never made it because there was always Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. When I look at the rankings and the years of my career and who was fighting to be No 1, I see that it was beautiful that these were the ones who didn’t let me make it, this dream.
