The 2023 Italian Open is battling with the weather and even though it did well until now, the play was suspended on Saturday.
Since that ATP 1000 event in Rome started, it seemed that it may be in a trouble. However, in the first days it was successful in terms of getting lucky with the weather as all of the matches were finished as scheduled.
On Saturday, the day already started with some matches that were influenced by rain and some had to be suspended multiple times. Eventually, the play continued and during that stint, Carlos Alcaraz was able to win his match and become the world no. 1 again.
However, Frances Tiafoe and Daniel Altmaier weren't so lucky. The German was leading 6-3, 3-4 when the match was suspended and moved to Sunday. The fifth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nuno Borges faced the same problem as the Greek was up 6-3, 4-3 when he had to leave the court.
Match for the third-round spot between the 32nd-seeded Jiri Lehecka and qualifier Fabian Marozsan was also suspended and all of these matches will continue on Sunday. Yet, the problem is bigger than the three suspended matches.
While the weather forecast for Sunday and Monday looks quite positively, it seems that there will be almost no play on Tuesday, with Wednesday and Thursday also in doubt. Moreover, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday also promise a lot of rain and the 2023 Italian Open may face further difficulties.
However, already before the weather looked back and the tournament wasn't really influenced and so it remains to be seen how the 2023 Italian Open in Rome will progress and how many matches will be influenced by the weather.
