"People are in love with Nadal and Federer" - Cerundolo on lack of Djokovic support

There is no getting away from the fact that Novak Djokovic is, amongst the 'Big Three', the least popular. Francisco Cerundolo had his say on the matter.

Whenever either Roger Federer or Rafa Nadal play, they have the vast majority of the crowd on their side, willing them over the line against whoever is unlucky enough to come up against them.

This is not necessarily the case with the other member of the 'Big Three', Novak Djokovic. Tennis crowds all over often choose to support his opponent instead of the Serbian great, often sparking questions of lack of respect towards one of the greatest of all time.

Djokovic has often had to battle against a crowd adamantly against him during matches, leaving him wondering why tennis fans have seemingly not endeared themselves to him as much as either Federer or Nadal.

This goes some way in explaining why he has sometimes been referred to as the 'villain' of tennis. However, for fellow pro Francisco Cerundolo, that is simply not the case. The Argentine recently spoke about the whole situation:

"I don't see [Novak] Djokovic as a villain. Quite the contrary. What happens is that people are very much in love with [Roger] Federer and [Rafael] Nadal. Novak says what he feels, it's authentic."

Cerundolo went on to reaffirm his belief that the Serb will end up with the last laugh and that he will be the one who ends up retiring having won the most amount of Grand Slam titles.

"Surely, Novak will pass both in Grand Slams won. Djokovic is the one who moves the most to help the players who earn the least. To those who play Futures or challengers:"

Currently at one behind Nadal but one ahead of Federer, the Serb is fantastically poised both physically and numerically to eventually take the overall crown.
