Daniil Medvedev overcame Miomir Kecmanovic in two sets to reach the final of the Los Cabos Open and extend his stay as the World No. 1 player.
Faced with a spirited start from Kecmanovic in the opening set, the Russian managed to edge past 7-6 after the Serbian did a valiant job at taking the opener to the distance.
He managed to make lighter work of the second set, winning it 6-1. Much to his delight, this win now puts him in yet another ATP final with his ability to add to his tally of titles.
What is more, this win now means he has extended his stay at the top of the proverbial ranking tree, maintaining his number one spot. Speaking about the win after the match, the Russian made sure to give credit where it was due.
"Very tough match. He started great and all the first set was a great level. So many tough points, so many points where I felt like I was close to getting the edge. The tie-break was great."
Medvedev had a great moment with the Mexican crowd after he asked for louder cheers following an incredible shot he hit to win a point. He admitted that he usually doesn't do that but wanted to try and see what would happen.
"I'm not the kind of guy to ask [for the crowd to cheer] like this. I made a great point, so I thought, 'This one was good, let's try to pump it up a little bit.'"
This win now means Medvedev will battle Cameron Norrie for what would be his first title of the year. Having already lost a couple of finals on grass this season, the Russian will be keen to put these behind him and head into the hard-court swing on the best possible form.
