Novak Djokovic is one of the greatest of all time because he has been one of the most consistent performers over the years.

He has undoubtedly been among the greatest for more than a decade, which is a must to be regarded as one of the best. When Djokovic won his first ATP Finals, then known as the Tennis Masters Cup, back in 2008, everything changed:

"Back in 2008, I was still a youngster, and [only] qualified for the second time for the world Tour finals. I remember I was on a run [in Shanghai]. I remember my performances very well and played a really fantastic five matches.”

It would not be the last time he would win the event either as he added a couple of more later with the city being different. “That was the best run I ever had, no doubt,” explained Djokovic when remembering his run in London that saw him win 19 of 20 matches across four years.

Speaking about the key to being a great players over a long period of time, Djokovic said that the key is consistency:

“One of the greatest challenges I think that a tennis professional has on the men’s Tour is consistency. That always has been my goal, to try to be continuously solid, week in, week, out, particularly at the big events, Grand Slams and Masters 1000s."

"To be able to qualify for the last eight but also to be able to build ranking points and stay at the top of the men’s game as much as possible. I was able to do that incredibly well in that period, so I would say that is the best run I had.”
