Novak Djokovic knows his path to another ATP Finals trophy and it will have to go through Jannik Sinner who is in amazing shape.
This won't be the first time Sinner played in Turin because he got in as an alternate two years ago. This will however be the first time he got in properly, as his tremendous performances this year secured a spot outright. He will arrive at the event in really good shape winning a couple of events lately including the China Open and the Vienna Open.
He bested Daniil Medvedev in both of these matches, which are impressive wins. Djokovic needs no introduction either, as his recent performances in Paris solidified him as the main favourite for this. Even so, how exactly will their match go?
Head-to-head:
Well the H2H favours Djokovic naturally though they only played three matches so far. The only match they played this year happened at Wimbledon, and it was a straight-sets win for Djokovic. Hard courts will give Sinner more chances but considering that nobody beat Djokovic in Turin last year, it's going to be pretty tough.
Prediction:
The crucial thing for Sinner will actually be the return. He's known as a pretty good returner and he'll need that against Djokovic who is known for his timely serving indoors. Every time he gives a small chance, he finds a good serve and being clinical in those situations will be crucial for the Italian.
He obviously needs to do enough on his own serve to keep Djokovic away from any chances. I'm not entirely sure he will be able to do that because he is and always be quite streaky. I just don't like streaky players against Djokovic because the Serbian is uniquely qualified to dismantle that type of tennis.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in three sets.
