Gael Monfils lamented his bad luck with injuries following yet another retirement and yet another injury at the Miami Open.
Monfils played against his compatriot Humbert in the first round of the Miami Open but it was a short match that was cut short by his retirement. A pop sound during a serve in the match indicated a problem for Monfils and the sharp pain he felt not long after clearly showed him it was another injury. He struck a very frustrated tone while describing it after the match somewhat blaming himself.
I couldn't help but get hurt again, it must be something I don't do well. It's not what I want. I was very downcast immediately afterwards, but you have to think things are a little more positive and since I don't know what the problem is, I try not to freak out.
The problem is something with the wrist but Monfils is unsure what the actual problem is more testing is needed. Monfils hopes it's nothing major but he simply doesn't know. He pondered over the injury after the match explaining that it could be a week or months.
I will do tests and then there will be treatments. I don't know if I'll have it for two, six or more weeks if they tell me I broke my wrist and will have it for nine months, well, I'll have to think about it. But I don't think I'll have to stay still for that long.
The nature of the injury was a freak one as it simply happened during a serve. Monfils explained that he heard a pop sound during a serve. It bothered him too much to continue playing on it.
I heard a loud pop on the serve and attempted the bum because I knew immediately it was no good.
