Nicolas Jarry vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: 2023 China Open Beijing - Preview & Prediction

by Evita Mueller

Nicolas Jarry and Stefanos Tsitsipas had some interesting battles in the past and fans are hoping for another one at the 2023 China Open in Beijing.

Neither will be too happy with this draw, but the event is just so strong that there aren't any easy opponents. Tsitsipas need wins and is hopeful of winning, but it's not a guaranteed thing against Jarry, who has given him some trouble in the past.

The Greek player didn't show a very good level in the recent Davis Cup matches, but there is optimism that a return to China could spark something. Nicolas Jarry was pretty solid lately and has been for much of this year. We know what we'll get from the Chilean, which makes this a very interesting matchup.

Head-to-head:

The players played four times so far on the ATP Tour, and three of those came this year. Tsitsipas proved better in Monte Carlo, winning in two sets. Halle was a bit different as Jarry prevailed over the Greek in two sets which wasn't the case in Los Cabos.

Tsitsipas won that event which means that he beat Jarry and he did but it was a close matchup.

Prediction:

So, what sort of conclusion can we draw from these matchups? Well, most of the time, they are quite close because both players have a deadly combo of serve + forehand, which works well on hard courts. Jarry likes to play very aggressively and attack, which Tsitispas has trouble with.

The win condition for Tsitsipas will be to keep his serve and try to make the rallies long, hoping to outlast the Chilean. He has more patience in his game, and Jarry can go on missing sprees if there is an opening here. If he allows the Chilean to dictate, it will be a really long day in the office.

Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in three sets.
