Goran Ivanisevic has spoken about how much of a challenge it was for his player, Novak Djokovic, to take on Nick Kyrgios in the Wimbledon Championships final, calling the Australian a "genius."
Despite his playing days being long behind him, Goran Ivanisevic chooses to continue to be involved in the game he loves, even if that does include high-octane, stressful moments.
Nothing could be more true of the Serb in this year's Wimbledon final. With Djokovic faced with an inspired Kyrgios on the other side of the net, the eventual winner's coach has come out to explain just how difficult to play against the Australian is.
Pundits and players on tour have, for a long time, tried to put into words just how much talent Kyrgios has. But it was Ivanisevic who tried most recently, explaining just how challenging it is to build any tactics to play against the man from Down Under.
"You cannot prepare [for a] match against Nick Kyrgios. Nick Kyrgios is a genius, tennis genius. He doesn't know what he's going to play next in the point. We just concentrate [on] what Novak has to do, the things he has to do, the things he has to be careful [of]."
"When somebody [is] serving like Nick Kyrgios — for me [he] is the best server in the game by far. Unbelievable tennis player. [He] is very unpredictable."
Going on to talk about how exactly he goes about preparing Djokovic for that kind of opponent, Ivanisevic broke down what he tells 'Nole.'
"It's impossible to make tactics. [There are] no tactics. Fifteen minutes, best returner in the world, he does not touch his serve. You get the chance, then he breaks him."
"The key point was to concentrate on what Novak has to do, and just to stick to those little things to be ready for the big serves, for the big second-serve winners."
