The 2025
Hong Kong Open will be held from October 27th to November 2nd, the last week of tournaments before the 2025
WTA Finals, and its
entry list has been unveiled.
Caroline Wozniacki is among the former champions in Hong Kong. The 2018 Australian Open women's singles winner defeated Kristina Mladenovic to secure the 2016 title after a three-set final battle.
Leylah Fernandez's 2023 title run contained one of the most underrated finals of that season. She overcame Katerina Siniakova 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 after a contest filled with outstanding shot-making throughout.
Had it been a WTA 1000 or 500 final instead of a 250-level one, that final probably would have been broadly lauded as one of 2023's best, but those watching know how outstandingly both women performed.
Fernandez is back on the entry list for this year's edition. The Canadian has played very well during the last few months, most notably winning the 2025 Citi Open in Washington, defeating
Anna Kalinskaya in the final.
Her last few tournaments have not reflected her level. Fernandez was competitive against the eventual champion, Aryna Sabalenka, at the 2025 US Open and then lost close matches against Coco Gauff and
Naomi Osaka in Beijing and Wuhan.
Osaka's appearance on the Hong Kong Open entry list massively boosts the tournament. The four-time Grand Slam champion is back in the Top 20 after reaching the 2025 Canadian Open final and the US Open semifinal.
Many would have expected Osaka to end her season after scheduled appearances
at the 2025 Japan Championships and the 2025 Japan Open in the weeks before the Hong Kong Open begins.
Instead, it seems that Osaka wants to build as much momentum as possible before the season finishes. Her resurgence during the North American swing occurred under new coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, who used to work with Iga Swiatek.
Emma Raducanu is another former Grand Slam winner on the entry list.
The 2021 US Open champion retired from her opening round match in Wuhan against Ann Li, but that seemed to be caused by the hot conditions rather than an injury.
Therefore, Raducanu should be ready for the Hong Kong Open. The Briton, who
wowed the crowd in Beijing by speaking Mandarin, probably feels she has not gotten the results she deserves after falling to Barbora Krejcikova and Jessica Pegula in Seoul and Beijing after holding match points.
Victoria Mboko's name stirs excitement since the teenager's incredible run to the Canadian Open on home soil in August. Her results have been patchy since, but that is understandable and not uncommon after a breakthrough moment.
Alexandra Eala and Maya Joint are two other young stars who have had breakthroughs in 2025 on the entry list. Those two contested the 2025 Eastbourne Open final, which Joint dramatically won after saving championship points.
Sofia Kenin,
Clara Tauson,
Maria Sakkari, Anna Kalinskaya, and
Katie Boulter are among the others on the entry list. Daria Kasatkina was initially going to play
before ending her season early.
