The final ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season will be played at the 2025 Paris Masters, and the entry list is outstanding.
First played in 1969, the Paris Masters is one of the ATP's most historic events. It also has the unique status of being the only 1000-level indoor tournament, adding some variety to an outdoor-heavy circuit.
This year's edition will be the first held at the La Defense Arena, guaranteeing a memorable experience. The Accor Arena in Bercy was the venue used from 1986 until an emotional farewell in 2024.
Novak Djokovic has won a record seven Paris Masters titles. The tennis legend did not compete in the French capital last year, and caused an even more significant stir by not playing at the 2024 ATP Finals despite qualifying.
Currently, Djokovic is on the entry list for the 2025 iteration. Whether the Serbian will play for an eighth title is uncertain and would probably depend on a few factors, including his mindset.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion is playing at the 2025 Shanghai Masters and will also appear at the 2025 Six Kings Slam. He featured at those tournaments last year before ending his season.
However, Djokovic's recent comments about his best chance of beating Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner being in a best of three sets match might indicate that he plans to play at more Masters 1000 events like the Paris Masters.
Alcaraz's record at the tournament makes tracking his progress in Paris fascinating. In four appearances, the world No. 1's best result was one quarterfinal appearance in 2022, making it a rare event where he has struggled.
The Spaniard is less comfortable on indoor hard courts. Alcaraz also controversially criticized how fast the courts were at last year's edition. The conditions played slowly in Paris for many years, but that dramatically changed in 2024.
Sinner has also been less successful at the Paris Masters than at any other Masters event. This is surprising on one level since the Italian has won seven indoor titles, most notably at the 2024 ATP Finals on home soil in Turin.
However, Sinner's first two appearances were in 2021 and 2022, when he was a much inferior player. The Italian then withdrew in 2023 before the third round, and did not play in 2024, meaning he has not competed at the event since he and Alcaraz started dominating tennis.
Alexander Zverev is the defending champion, beating home favorite Ugo Humbert in the 2024 final. The German's highest possible year-end ranking is No. 3, and his chances of achieving that will greatly improve if he plays well again in Paris.
Ben Shelton probably hopes the courts are fast again. That would suit the massive server's game, and increase his chances of challenging Sinner, Alcaraz, and seven-time champion Djokovic for the title.
Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, Frances Tiafoe, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are among the other players on the 2025 Paris Masters entry list.
