The 2025
Vienna Open, scheduled from October 20th to 26th, has one of its best entry lists in recent years.
Jack Draper won his maiden ATP 500 title at last year's iteration by beating Karen Khachanov in the final. The Briton's chances of winning consecutive crowns in Vienna officially ended when he announced he would miss the rest of 2025 with an arm injury.
Andy Murray, who recently
gave his perspective on Emma Raducanu withdrawing from the mixed doubles during his final ever Wimbledon, Dominic Thiem, David Ferrer, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are some of the retired winners of the Vienna Open.
Jannik Sinner secured the 2023 title in Vienna by overcoming
Daniil Medvedev. That was part of his strong finish after that year's US Open, which acted as the prelude to him and Carlos Alcaraz dominating since 2024 began.
The Italian chose not to compete at the 2024 Vienna Open. He had played at the Six Kings Slam, where he won the title and a record sum in prize money, during the days before, and thought resting would be a better choice.
Sinner's withdrawal may have been influenced by his already being confirmed as the year-end No. 1 before last year's Vienna Open, meaning he could lose the 500 points he would have defended without worrying.
The 24-year-old faces a very different scenario this year.
Carlos Alcaraz overtook him at world No. 1 after beating his rival in the 2025 US Open final, and he is an overwhelming favorite to stay there until the end of the year because Sinner has many points to defend.
After Sinner's ongoing appearance at the 2025 China Open, he will defend 2,500 points from winning the 2024 Shanghai Masters and the
ATP Finals. Triumphing at the Vienna Open and claiming 500 points might be crucial to him having any chance of being the year-end No. 1.
Alexander Zverev could have overtaken Sinner at No. 1 during the four-time Grand Slam champion's three-month suspension earlier this year, but his results were terrible in that period. Things have not improved much since by the German's high standards.
Despite his average results since losing the 2024 Australian Open final to Sinner, Zverev remains at No. 3 and can help his attempts at finishing 2025 in that spot by performing well in Vienna.
Grigor Dimitrov plans to play in his first tournament since Wimbledon at the 2025 Stockholm Open before competing in Vienna the following week. If ready to return from his arm injury, he will compete
without Jamie Delagado after splitting from his coach.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is another high-profile name on the
entry list. The Greek will have played at the 2025 Six Kings Slam before the Vienna Open after being chosen as Draper's replacement despite his lack of form this season.
