Carlos Alcaraz's lead over Jannik Sinner in the ATP rankings did not alter during the last week despite some dramatic tennis occurring in that time.
Sinner's 15-month reign at No. 1 ended after Alcaraz defeated him in the 2025 US Open final. The Spaniard outplayed his rival in the four-set victory, and it was a great response to losing to him in the 2025 Wimbledon final.
They also met in the 2025 French Open final, which Alcaraz stunningly won after saving three championship points in the deciding set. Thus, they have contested the last three men's major finals.
Neither Alcaraz nor Sinner has played in ranking point tournaments since. The current world No. 1 competed at last week's Laver Cup but could not prevent Team Europe from losing 9-15 to Team World.
Currently, Alcaraz is on 11,540 points, 760 points more than Sinner's 10,780. Although that narrow points gap means the Italian has a chance of reclaiming the No. 1 ranking, the odds are currently stacked against him.
Sinner will defend 2,500 points from winning last year's ATP Finals and Shanghai Masters, and 330 points for being the 2024 China Open runner-up. He lost that final to Alcaraz after a gruelling three-hour battle.
Alcaraz will defend 500 points from that triumph in Beijing almost 12 months ago, but he defends far fewer points afterward. Sinner needs great results, and for Alcaraz's level to decline. Otherwise, being the year-end No. 1 will be impossible.
There were no changes to any player inside the Top 48. Alexander Zverev is No. 3, Novak Djokovic is No. 4, Taylor Fritz is No. 5, Ben Shelton is No. 6, Jack Draper is No. 7, Alex de Minaur is No. 8, Lorenzo Musetti is No. 9, and Karen Khachanov is No. 10.
The ongoing 2025 Chengdu Open and Hangzhou Opens finish on Tuesday. Lorenzo Musetti will play Alejandro Tabilo in the Chengdu final, while Alexander Bublik hopes to win a fourth title of the season in Hangzhou against Valentin Royer.
The primary reason for no changes occurring among the Top 48 players in the rankings was that those tournaments did not finish. However, there were some interesting moves concerning those outside the Top 50.
Matteo Berrettini played his first match since Wimbledon in Hangzhou. He fell at the first hurdle against Dalibor Svrcina, but the Italian moved up one spot to No. 57, which is still much lower than he would like.
Marin Cilic could not repeat his heroics from 12 months ago at the 2024 Hangzhou Open. Last year, the 2014 US Open champion became the lowest-ranked ATP champion in history. He lost in the opening round at the 2025 iteration but still jumped a place to No. 59.
Sebastian Korda has been trying to find his feet again since returning at last month's 2025 Winston-Salem Open after a spell out with an injury. He also missed the closing stages of 2024 with a physical issue. The American dropped a position to No. 79 in the latest rankings.
Kei Nishikori rising to No. 91, Hubert Hurkacz jumping to No. 71, and Jacob Fearnley plummeting 10 spots to No. 64 were among the other changes.
