The first two
ATP 500 events of the Asian swing typically feature star-studded draws, and that remains the case in 2025, as confirmed by the
China Open draw.
The China Open in Beijing and the Japan Open in Tokyo are two of the most prestigious ATP 500 events on the Tour. Every year, the draws of these events are full of stars, as players want to get back to their top form ahead of the Shanghai Masters.
Last year, Carlos Alcaraz and
Jannik Sinner played a
spectacular final in Beijing. This year, they won't meet again, as Alcaraz chose to compete at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo instead of the one in Beijing.
Sinner, on the other hand, will play in Beijing again, and thanks to Alcaraz's absence, he will be the top seed again. But even the top seeding status doesn't mean he will face an easy opponent in the first round. Quite the opposite, the world No. 2 player will take on fellow Grand Slam champion
Marin Cilic.
Alexander Zverev is the second seed, so his name was drawn on line 32. He, too, will start against a challenging opponent. The German player, who lost crucial matches at the Laver Cup this year, will start against Lorenzo Sonego.
Top-seeded Sinner isn't the only former world No. 1 player in the draw.
Daniil Medvedev will compete in Beijing as well. He is trying to return to his top form after recent disappointments. Medvedev stopped working with Gilles Cervara and
hired a new coaching team.
In Beijing, Medvedev is the eighth seed, and he will play against a fellow former Top 10 player in the first round. The Russian's opponent will be Cameron Norrie. Medvedev can also meet the second-seeded Zverev already in the quarter-finals.
Andrey Rublev also landed in the second half of the draw. He will play against Flavio Cobolli in the first round. Cobolli is one of five players who competed at the Laver Cup and then flew to Beijing.
Rublev's potential quarter-final opponent is
Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian reached the final in Chengdu, so he started his Asian swing well. In Beijing, he will play his first match against big-serving Giovanni Mpteshi Perricard.
In the top half of the draw, the third-seeded
Alex de Minaur is one of the favorites to reach the semi-finals. He played some exceptional tennis at the Laver Cup, and he might play a rematch against
Jakub Mensik, whom he beat in San Francisco.
De Minaur is the third seed, and he will play against home wild card Yunchaokete Bu in the first round. Mensik, on the other hand, will start against Miomir Kecmanovic, with the two potentially meeting in the quarter-finals.
