The 2025
China Open will continue the tournament's history of offering significant
prize money rewards compared to other
ATP 500 events.
As usual, the China Open will run during the same week as the Japan Open in Tokyo. This year's tournament in Beijing, which also hosts a WTA 1000 event, has the men's singles scheduled from September 25th to October 1st.
In 2024,
Carlos Alcaraz triumphed in the Chinese capital courtesy of an extraordinary final triumph against Jannik Sinner in a deciding set tiebreak. Arthur Fils secured the title in Tokyo by overcoming his compatriot.
Alcaraz received a much higher financial reward for his title than Fils did at the Japan Open. That ability to offer more prize money is evident again, with this year's prize money pot in Beijing being $4,016,050.
The 2025 China Open champion will receive $751,075, an improvement on the $695,750 given to Alcaraz last year. As always, the winners of events with ATP 500 status are guaranteed the maximum reward of 500 ranking points.
This year's runner-up in Beijing is set to earn $404,105, nearly $30,000 more than last year. That player will also have 330 points added to their total on the rankings, which could significantly influence the race for the ATP Finals or the No. 1 spot.
Alcaraz's run to the 2024 title included a semifinal victory against Daniil Medvedev. Whichever man replicates the 2021 US Open champion's achievement will walk away from this year's China Open with $215,360 and 200 points.
Andrey Rublev, Jiri Lehecka, Flavio Cobolli, and Karen Khachanov were last year's defeated quarterfinalists. $110,030 and 100 ranking points are on offer for the players who get that far in the 2025 iteration.
No byes are given at ATP 500 tournaments, meaning every player needs one victory to reach the round of 16. Those who achieve that without going any further will receive $58,735 and 50 ranking points.
The ATP does not give any points to players eliminated in the opening round of 500-level tournaments. However, the first-round losers in Beijing will still earn $31,320 for being in the main draw.
Although the 2025 China Open is strong,
Carlos Alcaraz's surprising absence was a blow. Despite the prize money being higher at the event he won last year,
the Spaniard signed up for the Japan Open instead.
The China Open is a mandatory event for WTA players. That means Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff
are among those on a superb entry level that is reminiscent of Grand Slams like the ongoing 2025 US Open.
Gauff is the defending champion in Beijing. The American No. 1 secured the title in her first tournament working with Matt Daly, but
she elected to split with him a few days before the US Open began.
Sabalenka, Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova, Naomi Osaka, Emma Raducanu, and Elena Rybakina are some of the other names on the WTA entry list. It is one of the most important tournaments on the women's calendar.
