The men's singles at the 2025
China Open is scheduled from September 25th until October 1st, and fans will be able to watch some of the best
ATP players worldwide in Beijing.
A combined ATP and WTA tournament, the men's singles at the China Open has 500-level status. Many high-profile ATP players have triumphed in the Chinese capital since the first iteration, held in 1993.
Novak Djokovic, who has
had physical struggles at the 2025 US Open, is a six-time champion, most recently in 2015. The Serbian legend defeated his great rival, Rafael Nadal, 6-2, 6-2 in the 2015 final.
Nadal, Andy Murray, Dominic Thiem, and
Jannik Sinner have also won the title. Sinner defeated
Daniil Medvedev 7-6, 7-6 in the 2023 final after being more clinical in the decisive moments against the six-time Grand Slam finalist.
Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner contested
one of the best ATP 500 finals ever last year. After a brutal three-hour battle, the Spaniard prevailed in a deciding set tiebreak to secure his maiden China Open title.
Despite being the defending champion, Alcaraz is not on the 2025
entry list. The two-time French Open winner has emerged as tennis's biggest star in the last few years, making his absence a significant blow for the tournament.
Alcaraz decided to sign up for the 2025 Japan Open in Tokyo, which is held during the same week. That came as a surprise after triumphing in Beijing last year, and because the prize money is always higher in China than in Japan.
Sinner has many points to defend between now and the end of the season, including at the ongoing US Open. If the current world No. 1 does not play exceptionally in the year's closing months, Alcaraz could overtake him at the summit.
Although Sinner is undoubtedly the favorite in Beijing due to Alcaraz's absence, many other excellent players are on the entry list, including world No. 3 and Olympic Gold Medalist,
Alexander Zverev.
During Sinner's absence for three months earlier this season, Zverev and Alcaraz could have overtaken him at No. 1, but both men failed to take advantage. Zverev's form fell particularly drastically during that period.
The German's latest attempt at securing an elusive first Grand Slam title is at the US Open. He worked with Toni Nadal before the North American hard-court swing and has not ruled out a more formal collaboration in the future.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is another man on the entry list. After the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, he ended his brief coaching partnership with Goran Ivanisevic and is back working with his father, who previously coached him for many years.
Andrey Rublev's chances of winning the China Open should not be ruled out. The ten-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist has enjoyed much success at ATP 500 tournaments and can challenge the best on hard courts.
Daniil Medvedev, who caused huge controversy
with his antics at the US Open, Lorenzo Musetti, Karen Khachanov,
Jakub Mensik, and
Gael Monfils are among the others on the China Open entry list.
