After the 2022 Wimbledon Championships final, Novak Djokovic spoke about the possibility of playing at the 2022 US Open with current rules in place.

Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships final to win his 21st Grand Slam title, but it seems that he won't be able to add his 22nd at this year's US Open.

The reason is that, at the moment, the United States requires every person who enters the country to be vaccinated. After the final match, the Serbian spoke about his participation in the Flushing Meadows.

"I’m not vaccinated, and I’m not planning to get vaccinated, so the only good news I can have is them removing the mandated green vaccine card or whatever you call it to enter the United States or exemption."
"I don’t think exemption is realistically possible … I think it’s just whether or not they remove this in time for me to get to the USA."

Tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg shared the Serbian's stance on his Twitter account, sharing why Djokovic likely won't compete in New York this year.

"Unless there is a swift change in US immigration law, #Wimbledon will be Djokovic’s last Grand Slam event of the year. US requires vaccination for foreigners to enter, and Djokovic has firmly said he has ruled out getting vaccinated, entrenching himself as an anti-vax posterboy."

Novak Djokovic's wife, Jelena Djokovic, defended her husband and answered in a series of tweets.

"Excuse me. Just making sure that it is noted that YOU tagged him as antivax poster boy for whatever reason you have. He simply responded what HIS body choice is."
"You are creating a very judgmental narrative that fits your agenda. He is simply choosing what’s best for his body. If he is not playing because of making that choice, he is fine with it."
