Andy Murray believed that Novak Djokovic would win the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, but he was wrong, as Carlos Alcaraz won it.

The 2023 Wimbledon final saw Novak Djokovic battle Carlos Alcaraz in the final and the 5-setter delivered. It was a fabulous match that ultimately saw Alcaraz win his maiden Wimbledon trophy, something that the Spaniard still can't believe.

Andy Murray was in the stands for that match and he was asked about it once more in Washington. He played his first match at the Citi Open, a very good performance and a victory, and after the match, he talked about Wimbledon.

I wouldn't say I was surprised, really. Maybe by the result. I thought that Novak would win, but I did think the conditions that day were more favorable for Carlos. You know, it was very, very breezy, very blustery conditions. I don't think that's Novak's, you know, favorite conditions to play in.

The match was competitive and could have gone either way. Djokovic had a break point and was better in the rally but ultimately lost the point after slamming the ball into the net. He would get broken not long after that, and it proved enough.

Yeah, I really enjoyed watching the match. I thought, you know, the last few sets, I thought he played some brilliant tennis in challenging conditions. And, yeah, I mean, they are both amazing, amazing players, brilliant athletes. No real, no holes in their game, really. Just very solid all-around. Yeah, it was impressive to watch.

This wasn't the first time Murray was asked about the final, as he talked about it the other day. After that question he talked about his own impressive performance in Washington, something he'd like to keep going in the coming days.
