'Can't Believe I Won Wimbledon & Beat Djokovic' Admits Alcaraz Almost Week After Win

by Sebastian Dahlman

Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning Wimbledon Championships champion; something he still can't fully believe, but it happened.

The Spaniard contested the final last Sunday, and it's still not a full week since then. Despite many assuming he would be somewhere on a beach right now, Alcaraz is actually swinging racquets on clay. He is taking part in his first Hopman Cup after signing up for it earlier this year.

Alcaraz never thought that he would be in this situation because he never thought that he would win Wimbledon. He produced a sensational effort to take down Djokovic, but it's still something that he's not fully processed yet. He talked about that in the lead-up to his maiden Hopman Cup appearance.

Thinking I won Wimbledon is tough to believe. I can´t believe that I won and beat Novak (Djokovic), probably it will take some days to believe.

Alcaraz on winning Wimbledon

Yes, it was a very unlikely scenario, especially after the Roland Garros fiasco. That was the match many assumed Alcaraz would win as opposed to this one on grass, but it actually went completely differently both times. He briefly mentioned that Paris clash admitting that he didn't deal with the pressure well in Paris, but he did in London.

I couldn´t deal with the pressure that Novak put on. I relaxed, doing some mental exercise before the match that probably I didn´t do in Roland Garros, that helped me a lot.

The Hopman Cup also gave Alcaraz a chance to play his first-ever mixed doubles match. It's not something he had a chance to do before and it was one of the reasons why he opted to still play at the event - to get that experience.

We´re not used to playing with women, mixed doubles. I wanted to have this experience. It feels great. I´m really happy and excited to be here.
