Carlos Alcaraz achieved a new career-high ranking today with the Spaniard being ranked as the 5th best player in the world.

It comes after a spectacular season for the Spaniard who became the youngest player ranked inside the top 5 since Nadal did it in 2005. He could have reached the number four spot with a win in Hamburg but ultimately Lorenzo Musetti proved that Alcaraz is only human. Asked about reaching a new career high, Alcaraz said:

“It means a lot. The hard work that I put in every day for reaching my dreams, [No.] 1, and little by little I’m reaching my dream. Top five for me is pretty amazing and I will keep going to be [No.] 1.”

As he explained above, Alcaraz is not done as his dream has always been to win grand slams and be number one. He's getting closer to it and a superb finish to the season could see him get there although it will be very hard. He has some points to defend in the near future and it will start in Umag.

He won the trophy last year and he now has 250 points to defend this week. Speaking about Umag, Alcaraz said:

“Of course, Umag is a special tournament for me. I got my first title there, so I’m defending the title this year. But I’m going to try to play my best and of course take lessons from here.”
